Astra ships
OpenAI shipped GPT-6 Astra last night (~7pm London). First model to hit their Critical cybersecurity threshold. Daybreak defenders get it first; paid ChatGPT and API over the next week. Greg Brockman called it the most intelligent and most aligned model yet, and said personally "I do think we're there" on AGI as a mission concept (no contractual trigger left with Microsoft). The safety overview flags opaque recurrence and harder chain-of-thought monitorability as capabilities rise. Sources: OpenAI, TechCrunch, NBC.
Tesla Cybercab went commercial in Austin Thursday night. Invite-only ACL Live, no livestream. The two-seat, no-wheel/no-pedals robotaxi joins the Robotaxi fleet in limited Austin areas (~45 registered in Texas). Tesla Robotaxi posted that public rides open today at 5pm CT. Musk called it a lounge on wheels and shouted out the Unreal Engine UI. AP: Tesla shares rose more than 5% on the day. Sources: Tesla Robotaxi / Teslarati / AP / Motor1.
SpaceXAI Memphis outage Thursday morning PT; apology landed evening London. Grok down ~3.5 hours. Claude (Mythos/Fable/Opus 5) and ChatGPT/Codex had elevated errors in the same window. SpaceXAI apologized to Grok users and unnamed "compute partners." Whether Anthropic/OpenAI shared that Memphis cause is unconfirmed. Source: Engadget.
Quiet from Hassabis, Karpathy, Amodei (beyond the outage), and Sutskever. NVIDIA–Hugging Face was last night.
