Christiano on the board

OpenAI just seated Paul Christiano. Anthropic mapped the economy. Thin elsewhere today.

OpenAI named Christiano (Alignment Research Center founder; US CAISI adviser) to the OpenAI Foundation Board and its Safety & Security Committee around 6:40pm London. Same hour, Christiano posted a personal statement: given capability trajectory and how hard alignment still is, he now sees a meaningful near-term risk of catastrophic, irreversible loss of control. Bloomberg covered the appointment.

Anthropic’s economics team published US transformative-AI scenarios through 2030 plus an interactive explorer. Modest: GDP about 1.6% above a no-AI path, little job hit. Substantial: about +8.3% GDP, unemployment about 4.6%. Extreme: about +32% GDP, unemployment near 12%.

Altman this afternoon on Astra demand: they’ll prioritize service for existing customers until capacity catches up.

Musk: AI + robots will more than double the global economy in under 10 years. Also spent the stretch attacking Alex Gibney’s Venice-premiere Musk documentary as a boring hit piece.

Quiet from Hassabis, Karpathy, Huang, Sutskever, and Amodei personally.
